The onsen steam sauna was a great way to unwind after skiing, and local regulars seem to enjoy it too. It’s a handy stop on the way back from Tazawa, roughly 45 minutes from both the ski area and Akita city.

The bath water is clear and has no color, and the 500 yen fee includes shampoo and body soap. I went for a day visit, and the usual suburban bathhouse setup felt easy to relax in. There’s a main bath, jacuzzi, open-air bath, and mist sauna, though nothing shows the time in the sauna. None of them gets especially hot, which is comfortable but might leave some people wanting more heat. The facilities are quite old but kept up well enough to use without trouble. Valuables can go in lockers that return your 100 yen.

The snow walls were so tall they hid the houses, a real glimpse of snow country. Since it wasn’t snowing, I brought my mother to the hot spring to show my appreciation. Seeing the old-fashioned straw footstools brought back memories for her, and she talked about wearing them as a child. The water was gentle and the warmth lasted, which was lovely. 😊
