Ryokan Sanso Kazeno Matasaburo

Leaving was the hardest part of our stay. The place has such a warm, kind feel that it was almost like being with family, and the owners’ personalities really come through. I’m fond of family-run hotels in Japan for that personal touch. If I return to Nyuto onsen, I’d happily stay here again.

The natural hot spring baths were such a treat, and the staff were incredibly kind and accommodating. We wished we could have stayed longer. It’s a very cute spot, though not near much; there’s a bus, and there are cans that can take you there and back. The building may look a bit worn, and you might have to push the front door open, but I still think it’s a must-stay.

The bus stop is about a five-minute walk away, and the location works well for hiking. In summer there’s a bus to the Akita Komagatake 8th station. There are two downstairs hot baths you can use for free, plus a little gift-shop corner and drinks, snacks, and beer for sale. The service was very friendly, the atmosphere cosy, and the food was great.

The bath was nice, and we had a lovely stay in this cosy guesthouse. The hosts were wonderful, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious and very filling. I’d definitely recommend Hotel Radish House.
