Hotel Makinoki

Dinner was the highlight for me: creative dishes, beautifully presented, with flavors unlike anything I’d tried before. Everything felt carefully made, and the staff paced the courses while keeping an eye on how much I wanted to eat. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, too. The room itself was average, but the view was amazing, especially at sunset from the bath. Getting there took some effort. I couldn’t spot it from the main road and only found it after studying maps and taking a narrow lane. I was surprised to see a place like this inside a national park. I’d definitely return. I’ll tell my friends, though I might keep it off my blog so it stays easier for me to book.

It’s a safe area, and once you get through the narrow road, you arrive right in front of the hotel. The ocean view is lovely and makes it easy to unwind. The building is showing its age and the room layout has some drawbacks, but the owner and his wife were so welcoming that their hospitality felt very soothing.

This time I stopped in for lunch after several years away. The French-Japanese dishes were delicious and easy to eat. On my previous visit I stayed overnight and had dinner, and next time I’d like to stay again and enjoy a drink. Just be careful on the last stretch if you’re driving a large or low car, since the road gets very narrow.

The road up to the hotel was narrow and felt dangerous. Inside, there were spiders about 3 cm across in the room and some in the bathroom as well. They may be common spiders, but seeing them gave me goosebumps and made it impossible to relax. It wasn’t a comfortable stay.
