Beachside Inn Shirahama

We felt at home here, especially thanks to one kind and welcoming woman on the staff. The hotel’s retro-chic style gave it a distinctive feel, and the experience helped us connect more deeply with the spirit of Japan. It’s a charming little place right by Shirahama Beach. The quiet, peaceful atmosphere made it easy to slow down, and being just steps from the beach was perfect for a relaxing break. Highly recommended.

We stayed five days and had a great time. The staff were genuinely kind and helpful, and the location was ideal, about a minute from the shrine and one of Shimoda’s best beaches. There are two private onsens, both great, and surfboard rental is affordable. First-timers can take lessons at "IRIE coffee and sea," just two minutes away. Breakfast at the Inn was convenient and delicious, which helped since there aren’t many food options nearby. If you have a car, getting to other restaurants in town is easy, and there’s super tasty Ramen a three-minute walk from the Inn. The konbini is five minutes away too.

The host was lovely, the rooms were big and clean, and breakfast was yummy with vegetarian options too. We rented surfboards there and had a really good surf. The beach is right beside the inn, and everything had a relaxed vibe. The outdoor onsen was great as well. This was one of the nicest inns I’ve stayed in, definitely my favorite from our Japan trip. I’d happily come back and recommend it to everyone.

The private onsens were the best part. There are two to choose from, and you just take the key at the front desk. They were always clean, full, and at a really nice temperature. We also loved the brown-bag breakfast, which was honestly enough for brunch. The rooms were clean, and the bathroom was nicely sized with a separate toilet room. It’s a very short walk to the beach, the bus stop, and two convenience stores. Maybe the best place I’ve ever stayed in Japan!
