Tatadohama Beach is only about a 100-meter walk away, and the pension has a roomy parking lot nearby, so it worked well whether you’re surfing, swimming, or driving. Shimoda Station is close too, with lots of good restaurants around it, and I had no trouble during my overnight stay. I found the place easily on the slope down to the beach thanks to a bright mural on a big wall. It seems to have been renovated recently, and there’s playful, free-style art outside and throughout the building. The simple room was clean and comfortable. There are shared shower, sink, and toilet areas, though my room also had its own shower and toilet, so there appear to be different room options. The staff made me feel welcome, with a warm atmosphere that felt more personal than a hotel. I’d happily stay again.
The art gave the place a pop of color, but there was also something nostalgic about the whole inn. The cute building comes into view as you walk down the slope toward Tatadohama. It’s just a short way from the sea, and having an outdoor shower ready for when you come back was really handy. The staff treated us kindly, and I felt very comfortable there. This art-filled place has a charm you don’t find elsewhere, and it makes me want to return.
For a surf trip, this was a good, no-frills option that didn’t cost as much as a resort stay. It had the basics I needed without extra services I wouldn’t use. The surfing-inspired art was memorable, too. Tatado is less than a minute away on foot. There’s a shaded board rack at the entrance and an outdoor shower, which made things easy. I’ll stay here again 😊
The retro touches mixed with a stylish feel made the inn’s atmosphere for me. There was cute artwork on the outside among the greenery, and plenty more inside the building. I came back to Shimoda for the first time in decades and wanted somewhere near the sea, so I picked this recently renovated place. I loved the whole setting.
A cheerful, pop-art building suddenly changes the feel of Shimoda, and just seeing it is exciting. It seems like a great place to make memories, whether you’re here with family or on a surf trip.
