We had a really good stay in this small, cozy guest house. The hosts were warm and welcoming, and even gave us two separate rooms for the same price since there weren't separate beds and we were two guys. We paid a reasonable 7000 yen for a double room in the quiet off-season around November. It's about a 5-7 minute walk to Shirahama beach, and easy to reach by bus from Izukyu Shimoda station. The rooms are quaint and comfortable. I'd recommend it to anyone needing a place for the night.

I've been coming back every summer for beach trips, usually room only at ¥11,000 per person. It feels quiet at night, with none of that party atmosphere, and over all these visits I've never run into any bad customers. There's a tent-style tarp by the entrance where you can set off handheld fireworks, a nice spot for couples to unwind. The room is clean, including the bathroom and toilet. Even with all the summer beachgoers, it didn't have that Sunagawa feel. The bed was fluffy and comfortable. The owner is lovely, with a gentle, easygoing manner. When I checked in, I saw the ocean and we realized we live along the Seibu Shinjuku Line, so I felt an instant connection. The beach is about a five-minute drive away. There's one steep left turn on the way, but we made it in a standard 50-series Prius without trouble. Just take it slowly if you're nervous about it. I keep choosing this place for the location, nice room, and price. I stay without meals and shop at Tokyu for local sashimi and side dishes to share with friends.

The service was polite and pleasant, and the room was comfortable, clean, and good value. Maybe it had just been renovated? It even had Wi-Fi and a washlet. The road up is quite steep, so low cars may not manage it well, and motorcyclists should watch out for tipping over. I would've liked a bath chair, and maybe a USB outlet or charging adapter too, though that's probably asking a lot. I'd recommend the place.

I stayed alone in a double room on the second floor, with no meals. It was off-season and quiet, and I'd happily come back. Reception was very friendly, and the stay was more comfortable than I expected. Maybe next time I'll book meals too. The place has a cozy Western-style guesthouse feel, with a warmth that comes from the people. It had everything I needed, and the room looked even better in person than in the Rakuten photos. My window faced Shirahama, and I could see the top of Oshima. From mid-April to mid-September, you can probably catch the sunrise. The Izukyu Hotel blocks the ocean view. The bed futon was just right for me, neither too soft nor too firm, and much more comfortable than at a budget hotel. The bath took a while to heat up, but worked fine. There's a rack for laundry from the outdoor laundromat. I would've liked a hook for hanging it on a clothesline, though. At the entrance, you take off your shoes and put on slippers. The lobby has vending machines, a microwave, free water, instant coffee, and lots of comics. The coin laundry is outside, and you have to buy detergent. Parking is gravel with ropes marking the spaces. It's hard to see at night, so check where you're going. Shirahama Ohama Beach is about a ten-minute walk away, and there are 7-Elevens and Family Marts nearby. With the ocean so close, the other pensions around here seemed popular with surfers. The roads are hilly, with a steep downhill left turn on the way to the place. You can't see the road you're turning onto from inside the car, so if it's your first visit, I'd check in during daylight. The slope makes it hard for low-profile cars to get in, which I thought might help keep rowdy people away (lol).

The owners are such lovely people that our family had a good time just being there. The food was generous and so tasty that I finished everything, even after saying there was too much. I'd definitely suggest booking a room with meals. We came for a swim, and the sea is reached by going up and down hills. It's not far if you don't have little kids or trouble walking. The room isn't new, but it's well kept and we were comfortable. The drive could be hard if you're not confident behind the wheel. There's a very steep hill with sharp turns. Our older Vellfire got through, but we saw some cars scrape. It might be easier with a smaller car. I'd stay again if I got the chance.
