Hotel Thida No Sato

The sunsets here are beautiful, though the beach isn't like the one at 17END. The accommodation sits right in front of Sawada Beach, and the building is run-down. The rates are reasonable.

We stayed three nights in August 2025, seven of us across three generations, with breakfast and dinner included. Our time at Tida no Sato became a lasting memory. The snorkeling trip where we saw sea turtles was great, but the most luxurious part was sitting on the balcony in front of the hotel, looking out at Sawada Beach and having food and drinks as the sun went down. The beach looks different with each tide and shift in sunlight. At night the front desk lent us flashlights, so we could step out of the hotel and walk beneath a starry sky. We looked forward to every meal. The miso-flavored rafute was especially good, and the grilled salmon with shikuwasa and herbal tea made with local plants felt so relaxing. The island atmosphere came through in everything. I'd love to stay again.

The staff were so thoughtful with our children, even preparing food for our one-year-old without us asking. We stayed five nights with kids ranging from a baby to elementary school age, and everyone treated us kindly despite the noise and extra work we may have caused. The hotel is older, but the service and food were wonderful. Being right by the ocean with a private beach also meant it stayed peaceful during Obon. I wanted to say thank you, so this is my first Google review. I’d love to return!

The ride to Shimojishima Airport the morning we left completely changed how I felt about the place. After breakfast I was considering walking there, but a staff member offered to drive us since he was heading out for lunch. We chatted along the way, and he spoke slowly in Japanese while asking about us, perhaps because he hadn’t met Taiwanese guests before. He was incredibly kind. This is an old-fashioned hotel with a warm, local feel. It’s a little out of the way, though very close to the airport. Taiwanese visitors should know that bicycles have to be rented here, unlike at hotels in Taiwan. Once you have one, the spot works well for cycling around and getting a feel for the area. For me, its value is in experiencing a night in the countryside and the hospitality of rural Japan, rather than in counting stars.
