I only needed somewhere to park, pay, sleep, and head out early for a ski tour at Myoko Suginohara, so this old-school Japanese hotel on the edge of town by the expressway suited me. I didn't eat there or use any facilities. Guest numbers were restricted due to Covid, and I didn't see anyone else in the lobby during my short stay. There was some road noise, but from the west side of the building the mountain views are nice.

We were happy with the reasonable price, clean room, shower in the bathroom, and plenty of amenities. The exterior has a slightly retro look, and the hotel is conveniently close to the highway. The parking lot filled up quickly. Our family of four stayed one night. Breakfast came in adult and child portions: the kids got Western-style food, while the adults had tasty Japanese dishes made with local ingredients. The rice was delicious too.

The outside made me wonder at first if the place would be okay, but indoors it was a completely different story. Our room was clean and spacious, the amenities were great, and even though the bathroom was a unit bath, it was easy to use and caused no stress. Breakfast was included and fantastic. There was more than the kids could eat in the Western-style meal, and the Japanese meal for adults showed care for their nutrition. I've stayed in lots of hotels, but never had this level of service at this price. It really earned its reputation as the best in the village. The whole family was happy, and we'll definitely come back. Thanks to the kind young man at the front desk!

The breakfast really stands out. It's incredibly elaborate for a business hotel, with miso soup and side dishes prepared without cutting corners. The chef has clearly put a lot of skill into it. I do wonder how many business travelers can actually finish such an extravagant meal. For the price, the place is spacious and clean, and the bath is roomy and comfortable.

Free parking is surprisingly rare among cheap places to stay in Nagano city, and that alone makes this good value. My room was spacious, and I liked having a double bed to myself. Still, there are some issues: the air conditioning was too strong and hard to adjust, the bath water temperature was tricky to control, and the Wi-Fi was so slow I tethered through my phone. The exterior looked pretty lame, and I wondered if I'd made a mistake when I walked in. Despite those questionable bits, I'd recommend it for business trips as an overall good deal.
