After dinner, we had massages in our room, and they were very reasonably priced. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and the ryokan serves Japanese and European wines too. If you’re walking the Nakasendo, this is a great place to take a well-earned break. It’s a well-maintained ryokan with just 10 rooms, and indoor and outdoor baths spread across four levels.

The owner speaks English and is incredibly hospitable. Early one morning, they guided me to the nearby Shrine at sunrise, where I had an amazing experience praying. It’s a lovely ryokan, with a lake view, traditional onsen, and cozy rooms with big windows and a wonderful atmosphere. I’d highly recommend it.

The balcony has such a peaceful view, and the location is handy for both the train station and seven eleven. This is a beautiful lodge, clean to a five-star hotel standard. The shared shower room with onsen is small but well kept. You can also pay to use the public onsen privately. I’d happily stay again if I come back.

We’ve stayed at a few Ryokan now, and this one is lovely. The attention to detail is great, with fresh towels and yukata each day. The baths are relaxing and enjoyable. We booked without meals. Breakfast places can be a bit hard to find, though there are plenty of good options for lunch and dinner, and 7/11 isn’t far away.

The morning shrine tour was worth doing, even at -2⁰C. I was there recently while walking the Nakasendo, and the ryokan made for a comfortable stop. My room was large, with a nice view, and the hot baths were relaxing. The food featured excellent local produce, and the service was good. It isn’t new, but it has a comfortable charm and atmosphere you don’t get from a sleek new finish. I’d certainly like to stay longer if I get the chance to revisit Lake Suwa.
