The onsen is clean and spacious, with both an indoor and an outdoor pool. Non-hotel guests pay ¥1000.

Food was the one real difficulty for us as vegetarians, since the choices were extremely limited. A few more vegetarian-friendly options would be great. We still had a lovely stay at Hotel Tangram in Nagano, surrounded by lush greenery. It’s a scenic, peaceful spot, especially in spring, and felt refreshing and relaxing. There were plenty of fun activities for kids, which kept them happily busy throughout our stay. We’d recommend it to families looking for a relaxing break in nature.

The main drawback was the food choice. The two non-default restaurants were often fully booked, so we ended up eating every meal at the default restaurant, which could get repetitive on a longer stay. We went for a family ski trip and enjoyed the spacious hotel onsen. There aren’t many ski lifts, but queues are usually absent, so you can get plenty of runs in. The massage is good value, though it only fits a few customers, so it’s best to reserve a time for after a long day on the slopes. I’d recommend it for families wanting a relaxed ski escape.

The location is great for skiing and golf, but the food was disgusting. It seemed like frozen food made from the cheapest items, and after paying $174 for one night, both meals made me sick. I wonder if the people who like it didn’t eat. There’s an indoor pool, but while we were there it was only open from 10 to 11 AM, and checkout is at 11. Really, why have a pool at all? The room was dark, smelly, and moldy. Stay here only if it’s your last option. There must be somewhere better.
