The little river here was a highlight for me. Bring water shoes, since there are steps and a ladder down to it, and you can swim or jump from the ledges and spend the afternoon in the water. It flows into the much larger river near the train in Yuyaonsen, where there's a park and lots of BBQs, kids, and people if you want a busier spot. Here, though, it feels tucked into nature and very personal. The kindness, architecture, food, and setting are hard to put into words. There may only be two or three outdoor baths, not twelve, but that doesn't take away from the place's magic. I first stayed about 12 years ago, then came back in summer 2024 with my wife and son. I hope to return soon, take a morning walk past the train and rice fields, and enjoy that amazing breakfast again. If I had to choose one Ryoken for the rest of my life, this would be it.

We booked a room with a private balcony bath, and it was incredible. They even picked us up at the train stop. Breakfast and dinner were included, and the service and thoughtfulness were on another level. Amazing Ryokan. Don't second guess staying here.

Getting here takes time, though there are several ways to enjoy hiking and the surrounding nature once you arrive. The rooms feel very authentic, so you may hear the neighbors. This is a traditional Japanese inn set in nature with a hot bath, and breakfast and dinner are included. That was a good call, since there are very few restaurants nearby.

Dinner was genuinely good, unlike the pre-made meals some nearby companies deliver to mid-budget ryokan around the area. That happens a lot, and I find those dinners surprising sometimes but rarely memorable. If you've dreamed of sleeping in a gassho house, this is the place. Inside, it feels more like a traditional ryokan, kept neat and modernized just enough. The onsen is super relaxing, with the river audible outside, and the whole place feels sweet and very iconic-Japan 😊
