Shiraraso Grand Hotel

The seaside onsen and direct access to the white sand beach were highlights, and kids are well catered for here. There's a playground right on the beach, plus a special kids' food table at the breakfast buffet. The buffet breakfast was sumptuous, and the kaiseki dinner was fabulous. Our Japanese-style sea-view room had twin beds and was big enough for our family of four. The hotel blends its old glory with modern updates for a comfortable stay. I've visited at least 20 onsen areas and hotels in Japan, and this is one of the few I'd definitely consider returning to. Remember to get off at bus stop S14, not S15. Love it 💕 Highly recommend.

The breakfast buffet was excellent, and the staff were kind and professional. I loved my tatami room overlooking the sea. The second-floor onsen was great too, and I appreciated the evening snacks and wine in the lobby, along with coffee in the morning. Everything was good, and I'd recommend it to others.

Mostly, it was the manager's incredibly rude behavior that put me off this place. He refused to make a restaurant reservation, and the other employees tried to cover for him. The whole thing felt completely amateurish. The public baths also seemed unclean, with a slippery layer of human grease on the bottom. There are mold and fungi problems in the area that can trigger health issues, which is a well-known issue there. Mold in such a large hotel, when the ventilation systems aren't cleaned, means fungal spores are everywhere. Cleaning the rooms alone isn't enough, since you'd still be constantly exposed to spores, which is a health hazard.

Our Japanese-style room was comfortable, and we slept well on the futons and pillows. The staff were very nice and helpful, and I'd definitely visit again. Shiraraso was one of the highlights of our trip, right beside the beautiful beach. They make things easy for beachgoers, with take-out meals, umbrella and tent rentals, and outdoor showers to wash the sand off. From the back door, it takes only a couple of minutes to get into the water.
