I chose the dinner and breakfast plan and was very satisfied. The dinner was unexpectedly generous, with tempura, sashimi, simmered fish, and grilled abalone. The abalone was tender, juicy, and delicious, and there was as much rice as I wanted. The hot spring is also a highlight: the water is a little spicy and salty, and warms you in a different way. A soak at night and again early in the morning helped ease the fatigue. For tennis players visiting Shirako, this is a great inn to consider. The courts are a short walk away and there's plenty of parking. During peak season the student groups can be noisy, though they thoughtfully asked when I booked whether I'd be okay with the layers.

We stayed two nights as a training camp while my daughter was at a tennis tournament. Our 8 a.m. arrival worked out well since we could leave our bags in the large second-floor hall. The camp plan includes three meals and is a great deal. There's a parking lot right in front of the new building, and we paid extra to use the indoor practice field in the evening, which we'd reserved ahead. I'd recommend it for junior high and high school students.

I went to the new building for a day-use hot spring. It's new and clean, but the service needs work, which is a shame for such a new place. While I was changing, they told me the water wasn't ready and would take about an hour. ? I ended up going to New Kanay. Fuel costs have gone up, so maybe they're making various adjustments. I'll try again sometime. The reception counter was dirty, with things piled on it like a table at home. They should tidy it up.

The new building is clean, though the old one is quite dated. I can't remember the nightly price, but I think it was pretty expensive. Both buildings have large public baths with iodine-containing hot spring water, and there are sports facilities like ground golf and tennis. They often host student training camps, with medium-sized Japanese-style rooms for sleeping together, plus a banquet hall. You can also have a barbecue.

Whenever I'm in Shirako, I stay at Sunshine Shirako. The hot springs, meals, and staff make it such a relaxing place. And the bottled beer is always cold and tasty. (^^)
