Hotel Matsuya

The station is only a three-minute walk away, and Kushiro Airport is about a 25-minute drive. Dinner was nice, with delicious food. Communicating in English took some effort, but I’d recommend staying here overnight before a flight from Kushiro Airport.

The food was all delicious, and the rice was especially good. I might have liked a little more sashimi, though that probably depends on the price. Across the street there’s a Seico Mart and a Sapporo Drugstore, handy if you need to pick anything up. Kushiro is about a 30-minute drive away, which didn’t bother me. I’m tired of hotels and prefer this kind of inn, even if it’s called a hotel. The food feels more suited to adults, so it may not work as well for families. Our room was Japanese style with futon mattresses, and it smelled of cigarettes. There was an ashtray, so smoking was allowed. My partner’s Western-style room had a bed and no cigarette smell. If that’s a concern, the Western-style room might be worth the slightly higher price. The rest of our room, including the toilet, seemed renovated and was clean. There’s a large public bath for men on the first floor. It has the usual shampoo and conditioner service. The water is hot, but that felt just right in cold Hokkaido.

Back again, and feeling great! 💯 I stayed three nights with breakfast and dinner included. The food was delicious, and for the price it felt like a great deal. You can see how hard the young owner is working. Keep it up! (⁠≧⁠▽⁠≦⁠) I watched the World Series 7 in my second-floor room using the Wi-Fi. What a game: I saw the miraculous Rojas home run, Kike and Pajes catch a ball in left-center field, Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitch brilliantly, and then... that miracle! (⁠≧⁠▽⁠≦⁠) The women’s bath is on the second floor and the men’s on the first. Every room has its own bathroom. I had a Japanese-style room, and the futon was super clean! 😊
