After a full traverse of Mt. Hikosan, which takes a while and leaves you pretty tired even though the mountain can be climbed in a day, this was a great place to rest. The recirculating hot spring was peaceful, and overnight guests can bathe without day visitors during those hours. Listening to birds and wind in the mountains while soaking was incredibly calming. At around 600m elevation, it seems ideal for getting away from summer heat. I came in early summer, when it was over 30 degrees Celsius down in the lowlands, and the plateau air felt so clean and pleasant. The meals were delicious and generous for the accommodation price, as lots of people have said. The freshly fried char at dinner was especially crisp and tasty, and it’s unusual to get lean beef at this price. Great value, and a lovely inn I’d like to return to.

The stars were so bright from our room at night that my mother and I could hardly sleep, and the cool breeze and different birdsong through the open window in the morning were lovely. We stayed one night in mid-May, traveling by JR train, and the pickup from Soeda Station was a huge help after a long journey with lots of luggage. Our room was spotless, the facilities felt new, and we were very comfortable. We’d bought plenty of snacks and appetizers in case dinner wasn’t enough because there are no convenience stores nearby, but we were so full that we brought most of them home. Dinner was wonderful: we ate the fried trout from head to tail, and it was fragrant and crispy. The lean steak and warabi mochi dessert were much tastier than what we usually have, too. Instead of serving each dish bit by bit, they arranged the food in a side-dish section and a rice section. That let us see how much there was and eat at our own pace. The rice portion was enough for one meal, and even I, who usually eats quite a lot, was satisfied. The hot springs were great, and everyone we met, from the shuttle driver to the meal-prep staff and front desk, was kind. My daughter and I are already talking about visiting in another season.

We came with our family at the end of the year, and the price felt very reasonable, even with two meals included. The food was good, both in quality and portion size. There’s a large communal bath, while the rooms don’t have their own bathtub or shower. Our room had three single beds, which worked really well for a family. The one thing that bothered us was the thin futon, which left us a bit cold at night.

The open-air bath had a fantastic view during autumn foliage season, and it was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed both the bath and the food. I ordered wild vegetable udon, while my partner chose a set meal. Both were tasty, and the udon broth was so delicate that we drank every bit of it. I accidentally left my makeup pouch in the bath. They found it right away and kindly sent it back to me, which I really appreciated. I’ll definitely stay again. Thank you!

From the room, you can see the mountains way off in the distance, and it really gives you a sense of how high up you are. It’s a peaceful spot for anyone looking to relax quietly. I joined my father’s siblings on their trip, and my aunts and uncles seemed to like breakfast more than dinner. The hot spring water isn’t anything special, but it does warm you up nicely.
