Suwakoen

We had a meal package with breakfast and dinner, both Japanese style with plenty of dishes to choose from. The food was great, with lots of vegetables, which makes sense since Nagano isn't a meat-producing area. Our room was clean and roomy, and the mattress was comfortable after a full day out. We paid for a room with a full view of Suwa Lake, but ended up in a corner room, so I wondered if we'd been given the wrong type. We stayed one night, on 18/4/2025. It was cherry blossom season and there were so many mosquitoes outside that we couldn't open the windows. The hotel information said they don't bite people but can stain clothes. The room had its own onsen, though it was small and looked a bit old. The water was very hot, but I couldn't smell sulfur, so it didn't seem like a real hot spring. With the bathroom windows closed, it felt stuffy. The room had all the amenities except bottled water. The hotel said the tap water was drinkable. The location is great, on the main road by the lake. I remember seeing a Lawon convenience store not far away when we drove past. The hotel itself is somewhat old and felt a bit overpriced. For what we paid, the service, food, and other features didn't quite balance out. There wasn't anything special beyond a clean room to sleep in.
