Minshuku Taharaya

The food was delicious and far better than I expected for the price. The landlady enjoys chatting, so you can hear lots of local stories. I stayed in a large room, and the staff said I could use a refrigerator if I asked. The guesthouse has no lobby or vending machines, so bring your own drinks. All rooms are non-smoking, with designated smoking spots in front of the dining area and outside the guesthouse. The baths are clean and renovated; there are two, and you reserve one for your room, so couples and families can bathe together. The interior has also been completely redone and felt very clean. At night, the parking lot has no lights, which makes the entrance and exit hard to see, and the parking spaces are a little narrow. The rooms aren’t soundproof, but that’s to be expected at a guesthouse. I’ll definitely stay here again.

It felt like being at home, thanks to the friendly landlady, and the fresh seafood was delicious. We got to enjoy seafood that had just been caught, and with the ocean right behind the inn, I’d love to come back during swimming season. There weren’t many other guests, so we had the hot springs to ourselves. Even though it’s a guesthouse, I think it’s a safe place for families with children. A lovely family trip. ✨👏🧑‍🧑‍🧒☺︎

While sightseeing in Tahara, I stopped in for lunch on August 3, 2025. Though it’s a guesthouse, they also serve set meals made with whatever fish they source at the time. The lady recommended the sashimi set and fried gurnard set. The fried fish came in four big pieces, enough to leave me completely full.

The mother is so cheerful and generous with the food. If you tell her you can’t finish everything, she’ll cook it again the next morning and serve it, so you’ll leave breakfast completely full.
