Best hotel I’ve ever been to 🌸

A beautiful, relaxing place.

We chose the fugu course and stayed in a modern room in the new building. The old building has a lot of charm, with wide floorboards that give it a red-light district feel. The road through the back street is narrow, so take a little care getting there. Mr. Nakai was thoughtful, even with so many foreign guests around. One person in our group doesn’t like tessa (sashimi), so we expected to have the fugu in a hot pot. When Mr. Nakai asked, he quickly arranged for it to be cooked on a teppanyaki grill instead, and we got to try grilled fugu too. The ponzu was delicious and not too strong. Breakfast was tasty as well, especially the dashimaki roll, which I hadn’t had such a good one of in a while.

The room, hot spring, and lounge dining area at Kakujoro were spotless, and the staff welcomed us with a smile. We stayed in Hagi, where the incense aroma made us feel welcome. There was also an open-air bath, and the food used local produce, with delicious rice. Beer and coffee in the lounge were good, but the wine and snacks... The inn was thoughtful in many ways, and we were very comfortable, though the wind was so loud at night that we couldn’t sleep, probably because the door wasn’t properly installed. Kakujoro was a familiar name from the Tsuribaka Nisshi manga series.
