Watergate Tajimi

Before this happened, I'd stayed in this room many times and the front desk staff had made a good impression. But I used it for a short night rest listed as five hours, and when I tried to pay after midnight, the machine showed the overnight rate. The front desk told me that after midnight only the overnight fee applied and the system left them no way around it. The panel I used said only “5 hours,” with no explanation of this rule. The staff member agreed it was confusing. I ended up paying more than 5,000 yen above what I expected, because I had no choice. It left a bad taste.

My husband and I have owned a house in Tajimi since we married and had never stayed at a love hotel or motel in Japan. We usually use business hotels. We had a party with many overnight guests from Osaka, and even our five-bedroom house wasn't enough. Since it was late, we didn't let them leave Gifu. We decided to stay nearby at Hotel Watergate. After sleeping there, I woke up in terrible pain and needed medicine. At checkout, we had already paid at the machine, but first we took cash to the car. I saw a water machine with cups in the lobby and thought I could take a cup of water for my medicine. I was already holding a cup when a staff member shouted rudely that I'd checked out and wasn't allowed to drink. I asked if that was so, and he said they didn't know the hotel rules, we were just guests checking out, and I should have good manners and listen. Since I already had my medicine in my mouth, I bought water from the machine. Hotel and front desk staff should be polite. This place didn't feel foreigner-friendly to me. I've lived in Japan for 33 years, and I don't think staff should make fun of me for being a foreigner. To the man working the front desk on August 24 at 8:00 AM, please learn proper manners and how to speak to guests, and stop being rude. The female staff member was kind when I asked her to open the door so I could put money in the car.

I come here often and always find the service kind and polite. It's a pleasant place to stay, and I'd recommend it.

I found the entrance a little hard to spot, but the woman at the front desk was helpful. I booked through Agoda, and it was very cheap. The room was a little small but worked for two, and I could stay until midnight. I'd happily come back.
