Hotel Bokaiso

The room was nice, and I really enjoyed my stay, though there isn't much to do up there. The view might be one of the best I've seen from anywhere I've stayed, and at night it was beautiful and silent, strangely reminding me of Miyajima. The staff were nice too. Once the other tourists had left, the location felt spooky, and a boar startled me. Eep! I also liked the tanuki shrine and friendly cats.

It’s a quiet, low-maintenance inn, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I've stayed at similar places at mount aso where we had to return our own hotpots downstairs, and the hospitality never felt lacking. The beautiful view is a big plus, but the service here felt ordinary. They tell you at check-in that rooms aren't made up daily for eco reasons, which is fine. Still, coming back the next day and seeing that the overnight trash hadn't been taken was kind of shocking, since other hotels leave trash out when you opt out of cleaning. If guests are meant to tie the bag and leave it outside, they should say so up front. To me, it's the property's positioning and communication that are the issue. The gentlemen came across as much more genuine than the lady.

This was a wonderful way to finish our Shikoku pilgrimage. The location was stunning, with breathtaking ocean and mountain views, and we had a great few days here. My room was spacious and impeccably clean. Staff went above and beyond to make the stay memorable. One lady spoke fluent English and made sure I got a delicious vegan dinner even though I hadn't reserved ahead. I was blown away from the moment I arrived.

The views from here across Shikoku were the best I saw on my whole pilgrimage, and they’re even better in person than in the photos. I’m walking the HENRO route and this was a beautiful place to rest after Temple 84. The room was large, with a very comfortable Western bed and a big bath, and I feel completely rested. The owner speaks English, and the food was great too. I’d absolutely recommend staying here. Tomorrow you can stay by Temple 87, then have an easy walk to 88 the next day.
