The best part of my stay was Shin-san. His hospitality was next-level. He picked me up at the station, drove me back when I checked out, made his special coffee each morning, and we talked for hours about all kinds of things. I feel like I made a new friend, and it really felt like home. The place itself had a homey feel too, with a lounge full of books that I wish I’d had more time to enjoy. The private bath was another highlight. The water was hot and helped me recover after a full day exploring the city. It’s a bit far from the train station, but Shin-san has e-bikes that make getting around easy. The neighborhood is a hidden gem, peaceful and refreshing to wander through, with little shops and businesses you wouldn’t find in a big city. I can’t wait to come back and go surfing with Shin-san!

I was probably there in the low season and may have been the only guest. The owner and his elderly father treated me wonderfully, with the kind of genuine hospitality I really appreciated. The ryokan is beautifully restored and was originally established more than 150 years ago. It’s a little off the beaten track from the city, but not too far, and there’s plenty nearby, including shrines, museums, and a fantastic peninsula to cycle around when the weather’s good.

The building is beautiful, and the bath was just what I needed to soothe my exhaustion after a long day. My partner and I had a great stay. The host was so helpful and kind, and the neighborhood was quiet and peaceful. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the nearest subway station, which didn’t bother me. You can enjoy the local feel while walking around and looking at the beautiful Japanese houses. There’s a museum and an amazing udon place within walking distance. I really hope I can come back someday. Highly recommended.

Shin was so courteous. He picked me up from the station, showed me around, shared some history, and helped me book my Noguchi tour. I stayed one night to see the temple and Noguchi House nearby. A lovely family-run inn with wonderful hosts and service.

It’s a genuine Japanese house with lovely furniture, and the host is kind and very helpful. He knows a lot about the local art and history, and even lent us electric bikes for the day. I’ll definitely come back.
