Lake Haruna Spa Yusuge

The lake views were stunning, and the staff were friendly. Our room was clean, but the bed was the old style, which I struggled with as a Westerner. Dinner was traditional and very tasty if you're willing to try everything. It was great value for dinner, a room, and breakfast.

The view of the lake and surrounding area is incredible, and the setting is beautiful. The building is a little old but in acceptable condition. Breakfast is served at 7:30 sharp. There was no shower in the room, so we had to use the shared onsen area to wash. It closes between 8:30 and 9:30 to 10, so to clean up in the morning you have to go at 6:30 or wait until after 10. Check-out is at 10, which means no shower on the day you're travelling back. The food and atmosphere were acceptable, and the food was good value. The staff were also quite good. Still, the shower situation took away from the experience.

All the rooms look out over the lake, and ours was spacious and clean. The baths were clean too. Dinner was excellent, and there was enough choice at breakfast. It's a lovely place for the price, even if parts of it are a little dated. I'd definitely recommend it.

The onsen is spacious and really lovely, and I had a beautiful view of the lake from my room. The staff were kind and happy to help English speakers. Breakfast was Japanese-style, with coffee available too.
