The meals were an AMAZING part of the stay, but it was the whole experience that made it special. Our host family greeted us when we arrived and saw us off warmly. The room and shared bath felt cozy and traditional. Just note that the bath is on the first floor and usually open from 4pm to midnight. We'd only booked breakfast at first, but ended up staying for dinner with them twice because they knew what would be good. Such a lovely, authentic stay. Thanks for being such kind hosts.

What I'll remember most is the food: generous Japanese breakfasts we looked forward to each morning, and dinners that felt worthy of a high-end restaurant. They used local ingredients, and the cooking and care from the hosts made every meal special. Taking our time over dinner in the dining room was a lovely way to finish each day. We chose this ryokan in Imazu for its location, about a 10 minute walk from the train station and with easy bus access to the Hakodateyama ski resort. The owners were kind, the place was well cared for and very clean, and our cozy room had everything we needed. The Japanese bath was nice too, with little details that showed the owners' care. The price felt quite low for this level of service. It's a stay we'll remember for years, and I'd recommend it to solo travelers, couples, families, or groups of friends.

The town was wonderfully quiet, which suited me. The host was friendly, the Japanese breakfast was tasty, and the onsen was lovely. I had it to myself both times, so it was very peaceful. Since it was raining at checkout, they even drove us to the station. I'd happily stay again and recommend it.

We stopped at this small, traditional ryokan by Lake Biwa during our winter trip from Osaka to Fukui, and it turned out to be the highlight. The host cooked dinner himself, and it was delicious. While serving it, he used a translation machine to tell us about ingredients from nearby, so we learned a lot about the area. It's a cozy place where you can enjoy top grade Omi wagyu and relax. Thanks for the wonderful hospitality. We'll recommend the ryokan to our family and friends.

If you're looking for a stay with real warmth and personality, don't miss Marumo. It's a one-star ryokan with five-star service, and the owner went out of his way to make us comfortable. In the rain, he drove us to a nearby restaurant and insisted we call when we wanted to be picked up. He even called ahead to check whether the place was open and how the weather was. We left with some awesome anime merch he gave us as a parting gift.
