The location is the one thing this hotel has going for it. The room was unbelievably cramped. I’ve stayed in Japan before, so I expected small spaces, but there was barely a foot to walk through. The beds were rock hard, and my back started hurting after about ten minutes lying down. They’re also sized for children. I’m 158 cm tall and my knees hit the door when I sat on the toilet. The shower was tiny, and water ended up all over the bathroom with no way to avoid it. I asked the front desk to cancel the second night and refund me, but the staff refused. Fortunately, I’d booked through booking.com, so I cancelled there right away and got half my money back. I really don’t recommend this hotel. Wat Hotel & Spa is 500m down the road and costs a little more per night, but the difference in quality is huge.

The staff were kind and willing to help with whatever I needed, and everything went smoothly during my stay. The hotel is handy for Takayama's train and bus station, and the price was reasonable for a few nights. Still, it was only an average stay for me. The rooms feel dated, especially the door locks, and the building layout is a bit odd. My window faced the backspace of the Family Mart on the 1F, so food smells came into the room now and then. I couldn't seal the window shut. Also, having to hand in the key whenever I left the hotel is a policy that puts me off staying again when I'm in Takayama.

I stayed here once a year ago. The location was good and the room was alright. Most of the staff were okay, but one older male staff member was unfriendly. For me, the hotel was just average overall.

The receptionists were really accommodating, and breakfast had a good range of choices. I especially liked the tasty curry. It’s an affordable hotel in Takayama, in a great spot just a 1-2 minute walk from Takayama Station.

Sanmachi-suji is about a 10-minute walk away. The hotel is right in front of JR Takayama station and the Nohi Bus terminal, with a Family Mart next door.
