The uphill walk from Takayama is the main drawback, though there’s a free shuttle to the station three times each morning. We used it during all three days of our stay. The ryokan itself was comfortable, clean, and had a retro feel, with plenty of amenities. We especially enjoyed the private onsen. It was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience, and the staff gave great service and attention. Thanks for such a relaxing stay.

There’s a lovely walk into town, or out of town depending on what you want to see, and if the weather’s cold you can just enjoy the view from your futon. The tatami was spotless and so comforting, and the smell of food drifting through the lobby felt especially nice in the cold. The residence has a special vintage feel, and the workers have been lovely on both of my stays, once in summer and once in autumn. The staff were helpful with shuttles to and from town and with storing and delivering our luggage. They even let us change our dinner reservations, which I really appreciated. This hotel has a place in my heart. Thank you very much, I’ll come back, maybe in spring next time.

We stayed three nights and really enjoyed it. The setting is quiet, with greenery all around, and the accommodation was spacious: a large bedroom, a pleasant little sitting area with a view, and a very good private bathroom. The family who runs Ryokan Murayama and their staff were friendly and helpful, and made the stay feel special. We had dinner there one night, and it was amazing, at least six delicious courses. The private onsen was lovely too. Highly recommended.

Dinner and breakfast were both fantastic, and we loved having a private onsen. The people at Ryokan Murayama were incredibly welcoming and went out of their way to help us. There’s a bus stop just a short walk away, which made getting around easy, and the free shuttle to the train station was a lifesaver when we were in a hurry.

I missed breakfast and regretted it because it smelled so good. The hotel is in a quiet part of town, and although my room entrance was a little tiny, I absolutely loved the room. The place has a homely charm, and you can tell it’s family run. Just be aware there’s a flight of stairs before you reach the lift.
