The location made it easy to walk to the old town, market, station, and terminal. My room was small and had bunk beds, but the warmer blanket was a big help in winter. It’s a room-only hotel, so there’s no private bathroom or toilet. Toilets are on every floor, while the bathroom is only on the first floor. The kitchen was well equipped. What I loved most was the huge window, with a coffee table and a cushioned chair beside it. In winter the view was amazing, and I could see Takayama morning market from my room.

The remote check-in took us a while to figure out. You have to press the button on the keyboard, then they call you by video, and the picture was very clear. The rooms and toilets were clean and good. We also had two beanbags in a nice spot by the window. Would recommend.

The free breakfast at the sister hostel was a great bonus, and the breakfast staff were really friendly with useful advice. We stayed in the larger family room, which looks over the river toward the old town. It gave us a glimpse of what traditional Japanese accommodation might have been like, and we loved it.

There’s a kitchen and lounge area that’s nice to spend time in. The hostel is right by the river in central Takayama, in a great spot. Check-in was by video call at reception, with several language options, and it worked fine. I’d recommend it.

The room had really pretty views, and the staff were so helpful when I lost my wallet. I stayed just one night in a two-person room. It was quiet and comfortable, and the hostel itself is very cute.
