I found the service rules frustrating and unreasonable, and this stay was unwelcoming and not worth the money. I wouldn't recommend the hotel. I arrived around 1 PM, although check-in was at 3 PM, and asked to park just two hours early. The staff simply said no without explaining why or offering any flexibility. Parking costs 1,500 yen, more than at many hotels, yet guests can't park before check-in. To me, parking doesn't need cleaning or preparation, and if it's charged at a flat rate, guests should be able to use it when they arrive. That feels like basic hospitality. Most hotels allow early parking, especially when guests pay full price. There's also an unexplained extra "1,000 yen tax" added to the parking fee. I couldn't get any transparency or explanation about the charge. Combined with the tiny room, lack of complimentary water, and no flexibility, it gave me the impression that rules and money mattered more than the guest experience. Even Airbnb hosts, who aren't hotel professionals, show better hospitality in my experience. They care about guests, understand convenience, and try to make a stay comfortable. This hotel felt like the opposite, and should learn from other accommodations instead of sticking to what seems like a narrow, outdated mindset.
The hotel is new and conveniently located by the station, with plenty of places to eat nearby. Getting around in a wheelchair was no problem. Check-in was straightforward. Parking costs extra, but once you’ve paid, you can hold your space with a traffic cone. Breakfast was cold, and although there was a way to heat it, I couldn’t quite figure out how it worked.
We couldn’t open the windows at night because the room faced a busy road and a McDonalds with a very strong smell. It was hot, and the traffic noise made it hard to sleep. The hotel is close to the train station, but both rooms we were given had black mould in the air conditioning. My partner is allergic and became quite sick from it. After we told the staff, they moved us to a room where there was even more mould.
Restaurants and a supermarket are around the station or in town. The hotel itself is only a few minutes on foot from the train station. Rooms are standard, and the breakfast area feels a bit cramped. Reception is on the second floor. English is limited, but we got everything sorted without trouble.
The parking arrangement was incredibly inconvenient. I arrived at 2:40 PM, parked, and took my luggage upstairs to check in, only to be turned away because hotel parking was available starting at exactly 3 PM. Nobody had mentioned this rule. They told me to use coin parking for 20 minutes and come back at 3. Mendokusai!!!! It felt unwelcoming, especially when I was paying full price and check-in was so close. The breakfast ticket was only given for the next day, not for every day of my stay, so I had to return to reception each morning to get another one. This whole system felt unnecessary and inconvenient. The worst hotel system in Takayama. Avoid this place if you can.
