Ichii no Niwa

We had a wonderful, old-fashioned Japanese summer here during our vacation. Our two-story traditional Japanese house made for a lively trip with two families across three generations. The station was closer than we expected, and there was a morning market nearby that everyone enjoyed. It seems there are different ways to enjoy the place in different seasons. We’d love to come back.

The facilities were clean and nice, with a kitchenette, refrigerator, washing machine, and backyard. It’s a guesthouse made from an old traditional Japanese house. We stayed for one weekend night. Check-in immediately gave us trouble because the iPad wasn’t responding. There were no meals, tea or coffee, or TV. Since it’s in the city, guests are asked to keep quiet from 8 pm until 7 am. That wasn’t a problem for us as a generally quiet couple, but we could still hear music from the jazz bar across the street after 11 pm. Don’t they think it’s noisy? (laughs) The torrential rain also made it hard to fall asleep. 😭
