Minshuku Kuwataniya

We loved our four nights at Minshuku Kuwataniya. The location worked really well for the old town as well as the train and bus stations. We were looking for futons and tatami mats, and this place suited us perfectly. Our room was spacious, bright, and had its own shower. We also used the guesthouse’s separate baths for women and men. The service was lovely.

Minshuku Kuwataniya felt like staying at someone’s home, and our host was a kind, welcoming woman. The things that mattered for cleanliness were clean, and I loved the place despite its rough edges. It’s old and not the cleanest throughout, with shared bathrooms, an onsen that doesn’t stay open all day, and a cold draft if you sleep too close to the window. If you want all the comforts of a modern hotel, stay somewhere else. For an authentic place with character, history, and charm, like staying at grandma’s, this is lovely :)

The woman who runs the place is lovely, and staying here is a great way to get a feel for traditional Japanese homes, from the shoes to the onsen. Everything was perfect, and I highly recommend it. I did miss having breakfast or dinner at the hotel. Adding meals as a paid upgrade would make the Japanese experience even better.

We really liked our stay in a room with a private bathroom. It was clean, had good facilities, and was a decent size. Great location and good value, too. I’d highly recommend it.
