We’ve been coming here for every New Year holiday for the past 10 years, since our children were little. They currently don’t accept children under 10, but this place remains very memorable to us. Renting the whole building feels luxurious, and the inn reminds me of grandma’s house in the countryside. The staff are warm and welcoming, and we’ve always felt comfortable here. The food is a carefully prepared feast: sashimi, tempura, Hida beef steak, shabu-shabu, and more. We never get tired of it, and there’s always more than enough to leave us satisfied. The water in the open-air bath in each guest room feels just right on the skin, and the warmth stays with you for a long time after a soak. It became such a New Year treat that I used to think, “I can’t get through New Year without a bath here!”

The dinner was delicious, but I can’t imagine staying here again because I felt a spiritual presence. My husband and I were the only guests, perhaps because it was a weekday. The bath was outside, and as the sun went down, the temperature difference made it feel very pleasant, even though it was still quite hot outdoors. The area in front of the toilet at the top of the stairs felt undeniably creepy. I’m the kind of person who can sense things, and the second floor where the bedroom was felt truly frightening. The room itself was dark in general and dim even during the day. Some parts weren’t very clean either, and for the price it left a poor impression.

There was so much food I couldn’t finish it, and I had a great vacation. The room’s open-air bath was spacious enough for even a tall person to stretch their legs, and I could soak whenever I wanted without worrying about the time.

The staff were all lovely, and I had a pleasant stay. The food was luxurious and delicious, though it left me a little disappointed. The rooms are spacious, and the whole two-story hotel can be rented privately. There’s an open-air bath, but in summer there were so many black flies or horseflies, I’m not sure which, that it was hard to use it comfortably. It has no roof, so rain gets you wet. The TVs are old, too. Being up in the mountains means lots of bugs, and the place felt more like being back in the countryside than staying somewhere luxurious.

We stayed as a couple in a whole two-story building styled like a traditional Japanese house, and it was such a relaxing, comfortable inn. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one with beds and one Japanese-style room. There’s both an indoor bath and an open-air one; the open-air bath uses sodium-calcium bicarbonate hot spring water straight from the source. Meals are served in a fully private room in the dining building midway along the same street. Since the inn is by the river, nights stay cool even when Takayama city is scorching, so we barely needed the air conditioning. The room TV also has a DVD player, and you can borrow movies and other DVDs from the front desk.
