The team was kind and welcoming, and the place itself is beautiful. Still, it feels as though some details need more care before the stay can be truly memorable. Waiting areas by the onsens were not heated well, and there were no water stations in the bathing areas. The tiny paper cups made that especially noticeable after a soak. Getting to the onsen meant walking through mud. A few stones or a simple wooden path would help. Some corners also looked unfinished or poorly concealed beside the more carefully designed areas. Compared with other ryokan, there were few small complimentary touches, so the experience sometimes felt like everything came with a charge. The foundations are here for a wonderful stay, but it could use more warmth and attention to detail.

We came as a group of eight and could only book one night because the place was full. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were both generous and delicious, and the staff were attentive and friendly. We were welcomed with a tea ceremony, and speaking with them in English made everything easy. The onsen was so good, especially the outdoor bath by the river. There are private and public baths too, and plenty of free parking. A real hidden gem.

We had a lovely night here with our two children, aged 6 and 9. The setting was peaceful and beautiful, and the onsen was wonderful, including the free private bath. Our room fit all four of us comfortably, with plenty of space and a nice traditional feel.

After a four-day, three-night hike, this was a lovely spot to rest and recharge. I especially enjoyed the outdoor onsen, relaxing to the river sounds and looking at all the greenery. Dinner and breakfast were delicious. We also liked having drinks in the cozy, comfortable rest corners around the property.

We had a great stay after visiting Kamikochi. The inn is tucked away in the mountains, with lovely views, a great private onsen, and really good breakfast and dinner.
