Takumi no Yado Miyama Ouan

The property itself is beautiful, and its design and facilities impressed us. But for the price, the service and attention to detail fell well short. We wanted to enjoy our stay and had expected a premium experience. It was raining when we arrived, but nobody offered to help unload our luggage or gave an umbrella to the person parking the car. Staff were polite, though the service often felt reactive rather than thoughtful. At booking, we'd selected meals for our group, including that one person doesn't eat beef. The hotel apparently hadn't recorded this properly. We also couldn't see the full booking details on its website or reservation platform. When we brought up the dinner issue, staff said nothing could be done because the food had already been prepared. For a hotel at this price, the lack of flexibility or effort to find a solution was disappointing. We also found a sock in the room that looked like it had been left by a previous guest, which made us question how thoroughly it had been cleaned. The property is lovely, but the stay didn't feel worth the premium we paid.

The outdoor onsen had an amazing view, and the staff were so kind and memorable. I can't recall their names, but they took wonderful care of us during meals. The room size, location, food, and service were all excellent. We stayed here while visiting the Alpine Route and Kamikochi, and I highly recommend it.

We had the onsen experience of a lifetime here. The area and hotel are stunning, and the staff were incredibly helpful. We had booked the wrong dates, but they sorted it out efficiently without charging us extra. We really recommend booking dinner at the restaurant each night. Breakfast was great too, though as a European I wasn't used to having fish and pickles every morning. Still, it's worth trying at least once.

The food was disappointing too. They said they served Hida Wagyu, but the BBQ setup was so inadequate that the meat seemed sous-vide rather than grilled. It was tough and hard to chew, not what I'd expect from high-quality beef. The staff were almost all unable to speak Japanese, which made communication difficult even though we were in Japan. The front desk was rude and unprofessional. One selling point was choosing your own yukata, but by 7:00 PM all the obis were gone. When I asked, staff refused to restock them and said, "Maybe other guests took too many, what do you want me to do about it?" There wasn't even an apology. Paying a premium for that hostile treatment and mediocre food was extremely disappointing. Don't waste your money here.
