Pension HoNoMi-Tei

After visiting Shinhotaka, we checked into a charming cottage homestay. Since it was off-season, we had the whole property to ourselves, including the outdoor onsen. The owner was exceptionally kind and hospitable, and the full-board meals were wholesome and delicious. The rooms are a little dated. I can imagine it might feel busy in peak season with only two basins and two toilets available. Still, we had a great stay, and my son especially loved the playroom and onsen. Thanks again to the owners.

The outdoor onsen surrounded by nature while snow was falling was hard to beat. Staying here with friends was the highlight of my winter trip in Japan. The inn was cozy and cute, and over our two nights I felt like I was staying at a relative’s home. The staff were kind and attentive the whole time, and even offered to drive us to a nearby attraction and pick us up afterward. For the meals, baths, and service, it was extremely good value.

We were lucky enough to see snow during our visit, and the surroundings were peaceful. There are two outdoor onsens open around the clock, and you can reserve one for private use, which worked well for our family. The food was excellent, tasty, and served in generous portions. We had a wonderful stay.

Pension Honomitei was the highlight of our trip. We went on holiday with a group of friends and were looked after so well. The private onsens had lovely views and were perfect for relaxing and spending time together. Breakfast and dinner were both incredibly generous and filling, and some of the best food we had in Japan.
