The Japanese food was delicious, and the man at reception was genuinely kind. He was doing his best to help improve Takehara, which was nice to see. The inn has plenty of souvenirs, too. It’s a traditional, long-established place, though it gave me the impression that upkeep has slipped. The rooms were clean, but the facilities are showing their age: the toilet was noisy after flushing, and hot water took a while to arrive. The smoking room smelled really strong, so watch out for that.

We stayed in the new building for two nights, and the room was comfortable, with a washlet toilet and a roomy bathtub. There seemed to be a microwave near the elevator on each floor. Parking is right in front of the hotel, and Wi-Fi is available. The main drawback is the traffic noise: every room in the new building faces the street, and the old-fashioned windows let a lot of it through. Apart from that, I think most people would be fine staying here.

The room was dated but clean, with none of that musty old-building smell, so it felt like good value. There’s a simple breakfast included. There aren’t many restaurants nearby, so I ate at the hotel restaurant. The food was mostly Japanese and tasted good, though I would’ve liked a few more à la carte choices.

The front desk man was nice, though the women working there weren’t very talkative. I was here for work and wouldn’t make a special trip back. It seemed like a lot of local construction workers stayed here, and the food wasn’t something to count on. Getting a cold children’s plate for dinner put me right off eating. In summer, families at camps make it very noisy, and the public bath gets messy. There are only a few non-smoking rooms, and the smoking rooms smell strong.

We had a Japanese-style room for a family celebration, and it gave us a peaceful place to enjoy the occasion together. The building is a little old, but the staff listened to our different requests and were very helpful. We’d booked a meal for our first meal there, and it was delicious.
