Dinner stood out, with each dish carefully explained and made with local, seasonal ingredients that reflected the area. I was the only guest in the restaurant, but the meal felt peaceful, and I had a relaxing warm bath back in my room afterward. Breakfast in the same restaurant the next morning was generous, too. My room was in Mosu, directly across from the restaurant. It was spacious and cozy for my winter visit, with all the amenities, a tea room of its own, and a pleasant garden view. Check-in felt personal: a staff member served tea and a snack, introduced the hotel, and suggested things to see around town. I’d wanted to try a Nipponia Hotel for a while, and Nipponia Hotel Takehara Saltworks Town made for a memorable first stay. The rooms are part of the town itself, so it’s easy to explore after arriving or after breakfast. With checkout at 12 pm, there’s time to linger in the room or wander around. The service was fantastic, and I appreciated the restoration and preservation of the former residence, brewery, and bank.

The staff were kind and patient, and their English was excellent. The service matched the room and bathroom, which were both fantastic. I especially enjoyed an early morning bath in the quiet, sipping a cold Coke. The complimentary minibar had water, juice, soda, beer, and sake. I came across this hotel on Google Maps while looking into places to visit in the Chūgoku region. Reading about VMG Hotels and its work restoring heritage buildings into boutique hotels, while supporting small-town economies, made me curious. Nipponia is a lovely collection of restored traditional buildings in Takehara’s old town, and I’m glad I made time to stay there. I’m looking forward to trying other VMG properties.

The traditional breakfast was a real pleasure, and we loved the dinner. The staff were so kind and made us feel welcome. Nipponia Hotel and its surroundings had a one-of-a-kind, time-stood-still feel. Highly recommend!

The spacious room made me feel welcome, and breakfast was included with the reservation. I loved how the hotel brings together the town’s history and the old details of its buildings. A beautiful place to stay in this historic town.

The food was exquisite, and the staff were attentive. I was also impressed by the architectural restoration and the way it’s managed. At last, after several years in the making, I finally got to stay at Nipponia Hotel “Takehara Saltworks”. I’ve long seen the brand’s sincere efforts to conserve old Japanese towns and culture. I highly recommend NIPPONIA hotels to anyone wanting this kind of Japanese experience and to support it. I’m looking forward to coming back.
