Tabist Setouchi no Yado Takehara Seaside

The morning sea view from the bath was amazing and made for a lovely start to the day. The onsen area has the hotel’s only showers and closes at 22:00, so keep that in mind. There are separate men’s and women’s baths, with shampoo and body wash provided. We stayed one night in August 2024 to visit Okunoshima. Tabist Setouchinoyado is quiet and relaxing, right by the sea. Trains and buses are infrequent, so check the timing carefully. Tadanoumi Station is about a 25-minute walk away or a 10-minute bus ride. At the bottom of the sloped driveway, the bus stops are on the right, near a small, pretty beach. We’d warned the hotel that we might arrive late and checked in right at 22:00. The receptionist kindly let us use the showers before closing them. Our Japanese-style room had futons on tatami. We sleep on futons at home, but if you’re not used to them, they may feel too firm. The hotel supplies slippers, yukata, a toothbrush and toothpaste, face and body towels, a hairdryer, TV, a small clothes-drying rack, a kettle with cups and green tea, and a mini-fridge. Toilets are shared, with both Western and Japanese-style options. There are lounge areas with vending machines and massage chairs, which I recommend for just 100yen.

The ocean view was lovely, and breakfast was great. The nice woman at the front desk also sold beer and chuhai.

I felt the owner discriminated against foreign customers. In my view, she doesn’t deserve even one star.

The traditional rooms are beautiful, and the bathhouse looks out over the sea.
