We came to visit this well-known place and found a private onsen to the right of the museum-like building. It costs a little more than the public bath, but it welcomes people with tattoos. The place was very clean and cosy, with lovely hot water. We came out feeling light as feathers. A lovely spot to relax and enjoy an onsen, as long as you’re respectful if you have tattoos.

Motoyu is a great onsen. It costs 500 yen, with another 100 for a locker. I felt so good afterward.

We went at night in winter. If you want to try the other baths, get there before 21:00, since Motoyu is the only one open after that. Even with just one type of bath available, this is an experience you have to feel if you’re visiting Takeo-onsen or Saga!

The grand historic gate has striking architecture and serves as the entrance to the public bath at Takeo Onsen. It gives visitors a chance to step back in time and take in the place’s historic atmosphere.

It’s a good stop for tourists, and you can stay until midnight if you like. The hot spring is quite small, more like an old-fashioned shared tub where everyone is naked. Men and women bathe separately. One bath costs only ¥500, and towel rental is another ¥300. Free WiFi is an extra perk.
