The innkeeper was friendly and kind.
We're a family of four, staying tonight and heading out tomorrow. It was our first guesthouse stay, and at first we weren't sure what to expect, but the place turned out to have a great atmosphere. The owner patiently explained things, and the stylish Japanese-style rooms were lovely. The bathroom is shared. The owner seemed busy, so we didn't get the complimentary meal. Aside from that, the bath, washroom, and toilet were all very clean, and a soak left us feeling great. It's an easy five stars from us. If we're back in Kumamoto, we'd definitely stay here again.
We had a huge room, over 40 square meters, with a living room and bedroom, plus toilets, showers, and a kitchen. It's a gorgeous, genuinely authentic place, and there's parking. Sleeping on Japanese mattresses felt unusual to us, but that's how it is.
The shared bathroom was fine for us since we were only sleeping there, and with a few other people staying, we got a reasonable price. I heard that lots of guests come for Greenland fireworks or when they're doing business around Tamana. Greenland is about a 30-minute drive south, but traffic on the way back after the fireworks can make the trip take more than three times as long. We borrowed the haori coats and took a commemorative photo in front of the big sliding door with the tiger painting. The owner is hard of hearing and speaks loudly. 😄
We needed one room for six before going to Greenland the next day, so we booked Moritaya. The rooms, baths, and toilets were all very clean, and the owner was gentle and kind. There are hot springs and restaurants within 1-2 km. We'd definitely stay again when we come to Kumamoto.
