The Japanese breakfast was tasty, and the staff were considerate and friendly. They were happy to chat with foreign guests and made us feel at home. I also found their DIY local tour guide brochure useful for planning. The hotel has an old Japanese country house feel, though the soundproofing isn’t great. Free earplugs are available if you need them. They offer local items such as bath salts, Japanese sake, and black bean tea, which you can buy to get more of a feel for the area. Bikes are available to rent in the morning until 2pm. Female guests also get a good quality yukata in the room, which you can wear to breakfast.

The service was warm, sincere, attentive, and friendly, and the breakfast was so good we finished every grain of rice. My husband and I have rarely had a stay this special. The restored buildings are over 140 years old, with tasteful rooms that preserve their heritage and dignity while still being practical. There’s plenty of space, excellent winter heating, and showers that get perfectly hot. There’s no TV, which gave us time to relax in the bath or chat in the sitting room. The fridge there has a wide selection of complimentary drinks. We could really take in the beauty of the place. Highly, highly recommended.

We had a fun stay in rustic accommodation with plenty of charm, and would love to visit again. The staff were lovely and helped with everything we needed. They spoke English, which made it much easier to book restaurants and talk through sightseeing options. The hotel is in a great spot at the heart of the old area. We walked to all the significant sites, then rented bikes to explore some of the farming area and ride into the foothills to a shrine. Many thanks.

The rooms are spread across town, and ours was in a beautifully renovated hotel. Breakfast was a lively Japanese meal, and they drove us from our room to the breakfast location.

The food at both dinner and breakfast was amazing and carefully presented. The rooms and facilities feel authentic and are very well maintained. Staff were professional, warm, and friendly, and gave us great tips for things to do in and around town. Visiting Sasayama and staying at the Nipponia was definitely the highlight of our trip. Thank you.
