Hotel Harvest Nankitanabe

The window view was really nice, but not enough to make me want to return or recommend the place. The service felt quite cold, and the room had crumbs, hair, and really old dirt. The general condition also bothered me. I don't mind older places, and I know from working in hotels how expensive renovations can be, but simple fixes could have made some flaws less noticeable. A rug could cover the ragged carpet, and wall tape over the huge cracks would have looked much better. I came for a relaxing birthday weekend and got frustrated within the first 15 minutes for three main reasons. I was looking forward to the pool and onsen, and checked the hotel website for information about tattoo restrictions, but couldn't find anything. After checking in, I found out tattoos aren't allowed. By then it was too late to get a refund and find somewhere else to stay.

The staff were delightful, and this is easily one of my top five hotels in Japan. It was top drawer in every respect. The area doesn't have many restaurants, which is the one thing I'd complain about, but being away from the city is part of the hotel's charm, so that's the tradeoff.

The dinner was great, and the breakfast spread was fantastic, with Japanese favorites like curry rice. The hotel has an onsen and gym, too. It's in a beautiful spot overlooking the Pacific Ocean, where you can see the sunset. My room was large by Japanese standards and had a balcony facing the ocean. Wine in summer would be great. It's a great place to stay!

The staff are nice and the rooms are spacious, but the hotel could use a renovation. The rooms feel very 80s, and the walls are thin. There's no coffee in the rooms, and staff direct you to the paid vending machines. For this price, I'd at least expect coffee on arrival.
