The breakfast was good quality and ready at the time I'd asked for. My room was spacious, though facing the road meant I woke a few times to cars rushing past. There's a shared shower and bath area that you can lock for privacy. My room had a Japanese toilet, and there's also a Western one on the property. I stayed here for a night before starting the Kumano Kodo. The host was welcoming, spoke excellent English, and suggested places to eat dinner.

It was budget friendly and, for the price, I have no complaints. My private room had a squat toilet, while the bath is shared. The man at reception speaks decent English.

This old-fashioned guesthouse is handy for the train station. Ken was very friendly and speaks English really well. Since it was low season, he let our group leave our luggage there while we hiked the Kumano Kodo. The guesthouse also has a distinctive airwell.

We were passing through on our way to hike the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route. The host gave us a great dinner recommendation and speaks perfect English. The place was clean and comfortable, and there was a really cozy lounge, though we didn't have time to use it.

A simple, modest hostel very close to the station where you start the Kumano Modo route. The staff were really nice and let us leave our baggage there for free.
