The host was so kind and accommodating. She explained everything, then we slept really well on the comfortable traditional Japanese beds. We were only stopping in Tanabe before walking the Kumano Kodo because the trip would have been too long otherwise. Afterward I realized I'd left my adapter behind. She went out of her way to get it back to me and wouldn't let me repay her. So grateful. We would've stayed longer if we could, but the trail was waiting. Definitely recommend this place.

This felt like staying at a grandma's house, in a lovely traditional Japanese home. We spent three nights here and really enjoyed it. The rooms were clean, and the shower had good water pressure. There's a washing machine for laundry, and while there's no dryer, a laundromat just around the corner has one. The host was really friendly and kind.

For ¥3,000 I got a large room with AC and a comfy futon, which made this a good budget stay. The room didn't have a door lock, though. The shared toilet was clean, and towels were provided free. There's a fully equipped kitchen too, but the Wi-Fi was a bit slow. The owner was lovely and let me check in at 9:00 PM. A solid option for a night in Tanabe before the Kumano Kodo walk.

The room was clean and comfortable, and the location worked really well, about a 10-minute walk from Tanabe train station. We stayed both the night before and the night after finishing the Kumano kodo. The owner was so nice and let us leave our bags there for free. A perfect guesthouse.

The room was spacious, and both the bathroom and toilet were clean. This is an old Japanese house, so don't expect much soundproofing. We spent one night here before the Kumano Nakahechi trail. The owner has two guest houses and stays at Guest House Kumano, a few minutes away. Check-in starts after 4pm, but we arrived early and could leave our luggage. She comes by about once an hour to check on guests and handle check-in. It's around a 10-minute walk from the station and close to the commercial street for dinner.
