Our car got stuck in the snow about an hour away, and the staff, from the front desk to maintenance, did everything they could to help. They looked into getting us snow chains and called friends for advice. In the end, a local tow truck went to retrieve the car and bring it back to the ryokan, so we could finish our road trip. I can’t thank the staff enough, and I’m grateful to Kirari Ryujin. Thank you so much, everyone on staff。I’m grateful The tatami room was clean and spacious, with a comfortable futon and a nice bath. This is an unpretentious ryokan, and the price including dinner and breakfast was very reasonable. There was plenty to choose from at both meals, and the wild boar katsu curry really hit the spot.

We’ve lived in Japan for decades and visited many hot springs, and this place is special. The hot spring was excellent and so relaxing, and you could feel the benefits. Our clean, lovely room looked over a flowing river with beautiful greenery climbing the mountain behind it. The kaiseki dinner starts from 6 pm and comes with fresh, generous ingredients, including crab, prawns, scallops, meat, fish, mushrooms, and tofu. The baths are large and comfortable, with separate indoor and outdoor areas, plus a sauna and sitting and standing baths. Toiletries are provided, and the dressing room has a cradle, free lockers, hair dryers, and drinking water. There are also three great family medicine massage chairs just outside the women’s bath. Ryujin Onsen is said to be one of Japan’s top three hot springs for beauty, and the water feels soft as silk and smooth as butter. I felt thoroughly pampered. 😉
