We spent the night before starting the Kumano Kodo here. The owner was kind enough to take us back to Kii Tanabe station, and even drove us there when we first arrived, stopping at the market so we could get food since meals weren't included. We could also send our bags ahead to the final stop on the trail. It's a nice local pension with friendly staff, though it's a little far from Kii Tanabe and you need to take a train to get there.

I like whiting fried better than whiting tempura, even though sillago is the fish usually used for tempura and most Japanese people have probably eaten it since they were kids. One day I'd like to try catching sillago myself. You can catch them from the shore as well as from a boat.
