When I later contacted headquarters about another matter, I told them the whole story, and the person I spoke with agreed with me. I’d only learned then that the property managers were a married couple. That explained the male staff member I’d asked about whether MaxValu was to the left. He just said, “Yes, it’s over there,” without eye contact. Some people thought he was an unfriendly employee, but I realized he was the husband, and the couple had never said anything nice about me. The female manager’s way of speaking to me was unpleasant. Guests with pets apparently get an explanation, or warning, before entering the room. I was surprised, since I’d never encountered that at another pet-friendly place. I know some pet owners are rude, but she should change her condescending attitude, as if she’s merely allowing people to stay. She may not realize how unpleasant it is. Being told before the stay, “This is not a hotel just for pets,” felt completely unreasonable. They should stop offering pet-friendly plans. She didn’t say a word to my budgie, just glanced at him and ignored him. Her eyes seemed to say, “Don’t get him dirty.” The next day I asked about it. They said some owners leave dog poop in their rooms, which has nothing to do with me, and it was rude to badmouth other guests to me. I still had another day and wanted to use the inn’s other branches, so I tried to sort things out amicably. But when I mentioned a noticeable stain on the wall by the window, as if orange juice had spilled there, she said, “Huh? I clean every corner thoroughly...” That went nowhere. If she cleaned every corner, surely she’d notice a fairly large stain, and it should come off easily with a wet cloth. I felt there was no point explaining that her comments and her way of thinking were both the problem. Please do as you please. I’ll never use your services again. I can only hope they keep going their own way from their perspective, until one day they hit themselves on the head and realize what they’re doing.

In June 2025, I stayed here on the way back from a trip to Matsue and other places. I’ve used Family Lodges around Japan, and this one is fairly close to the city center, with supermarkets and other useful places nearby. The one thing missing was a drinks vending machine inside the hotel.
Tatsuno 😗 There aren’t many inns around 😗 I’ve always been curious about them 🤔 Are they like American motels? The rooms, beds and baths are all big 😗 No loungewear, and the amenities 😗 For better or worse, it feels neglected 😆
The bathroom and toilet were separate, and the bathtub was spacious and comfortable. I stayed one night for work and found the room very large, clean and comfortable, with adjustable air conditioning. I was worried about summer mosquitoes getting in, but they had an Earth No-Mat in the room. I did wonder whether towels would be changed on a multi-night stay. I was scared to find a utility knife blade in the room and handed it over to the front desk. Apart from that, it was excellent. I’d stay again.
The rooms are roomy enough for two semi-double beds, and parking is free. This is a fairly priced suburban place modeled on American motels, with a front desk and lobby in the main building and guest rooms in a separate building. There’s coin laundry and barrier-free rooms. The only included amenities are body soap, shampoo, conditioner and towels. Toothbrushes and slippers cost extra. The slippers are expensive, so a 100-yen store is a better bet if you need some. For dinner, you can eat out or walk to a nearby supermarket and bring food back. Breakfast is bread, coffee and tea in the lobby, with Yamazaki stick bread, butter rolls and croissants. You can toast the bread, though people usually take it back to their rooms after warming it, so there may be a queue at busy times. The chain’s hotels are almost identical, which makes them convenient and reassuring. I can imagine some people traveling around the country and staying at different Hatagoya hotels.
