You can walk around Lake Yamanaka in about 3.5 to 4 hours if you include breaks, photos, and meals. The inn is affordable and offers a traditional Japanese-style stay. Its location is handy, right at the entrance to the lake, with the local and express bus stop from Shinjuku Station just a 4-minute walk away. There’s a 7-Eleven next door for basic needs, and you can get a great view of Mt. Fuji from the nearby 7-Eleven. The shared bathroom facilities were all to myself for two days, luckily, and there’s a bath tub for anyone who enjoys bathing. If you’re taking a highway express bus, buy your ticket in advance on the official website. You can’t purchase one on the spot.

The women who run Shiki No Yado Hiiragi were so kind. After checkout, my boyfriend lost his bag, and they carefully helped us look for it. They even called the cafe we’d visited earlier, and we found it. The room, toilet, and shower were all clean. I loved making our own futon in the tatami room, and we were lucky enough to see Fuji-san from our room. The female bath only has 2 seats, so I got to enjoy the shower by myself. It’s small and doesn’t really fit more people, but it was so relaxing. There’s a breathtaking view of Fuji near the hotel, a convenience store close by, a trendy cafe less than 15min away on foot, and a vegan/vegetarian restaurant 5min away. It was a wonderful traditional experience, very cheap, and the express bus from Tokyo Shinjuku stops right next to it. So grateful, thank you again!

The location is perfect, right across from the lake, and parking is really convenient. It was much better value than the other local options, and I’d happily bring my family next time. The owners were so lovely when I accidentally went into the wrong room and made a mess. It isn’t new, if that’s what you’re after, but the facilities are sparkling and really well kept. I think they clean the shared shower after each guest uses it, because it felt private and didn’t feel shared at all.

A lovely traditional guesthouse right by Lake Yamanaka. It’s ideally placed for enjoying the little town and walking or biking around the lake. There’s a 7/11 very close, along with some quality restaurants.

The owners are genuinely caring. They don’t speak much English, but communicating was still easy and it didn’t matter. I enjoyed my stay a lot.
