The meals were a highlight, with plenty of local ingredients and lots of care behind them. Breakfast and dinner are included. If your room doesn’t have a hot tub, you can book a slot in the shared one for a private onsen soak. There are also two covered parking spaces. This was our favorite place to stay on a two-week trip around Japan. The owners were attentive and friendly from the moment we arrived, and the traditional tatami room looked out over a little creek. They lay out the futons in the evening. I have a bad back and was nervous about sleeping on one, but it caused me no problems. It felt like a real Japanese inn while still being easy for us as foreigners, and it’s clearly popular with both visitors and locals.

Nothing else on our three-week trip to Japan came close. The area was stunning, our room was beautiful, and the food was amazing. Everyone was so kind, too. We hadn’t realized Tenkawa was such a special, spiritual place until the owner told us about it and kindly drove us to the shrine. I’d honestly recommend Misenkan 100%. Thank you!

After a long hike, we felt so well looked after. The food was outstanding and all local, and the staff know so much about the area and its history. They’re happy to suggest walks around town and nearby, along with tips on local businesses. Such lovely people, and the whole place is really relaxing. We felt at home.

The food was fresh, delicious, and full of local ingredients, and the family accommodated our vegetarian request. They were also generous and kind, teaching us about the local culture and environment and taking us to Benzaiten-sha Shrine. Our room smelled wonderful from its cedar lining, and we could hear the stream outside. I especially loved the bath, an outdoor tub tucked among the trees where you can listen to the water. We had a wonderful time at Misenkan and would love to come back.
