We had a really enjoyable stay 😁. The owner was extremely helpful, and the onsen was very good. The place looks out over the harbour, and hiring bikes is a great way to explore the island.

The location and service were great, and the staff made us feel welcome. You can rent a fishing rod and a bicycle. Our room didn’t have a bathroom, and the shared facilities felt cramped or were Japanese-style.

The bath area was a lovely place to unwind, especially the outdoor bath. Inside, the ryokan felt cosy, and our room had a traditional Japanese layout. A really nice stay on Toshijima.

The food made the stay memorable. We ate in the dining area, with dinner featuring Toshima Island seafood, including spiny lobster boats, stewed lobster and steamed oysters. Breakfast was satisfying too, with spiny lobster miso soup, dried fish and squid sashimi. The hot spring, Tamamo no Yu, is a cold mineral spring with sodium and calcium chloride, but it warmed me up and eased my tiredness. There were two baths, and the men's and women's baths switched between morning and evening, so I got to try both. I stayed here on my trip to Mie, arriving before noon after taking the 9:30 AM ferry from Toba Marine Terminal toward Toshi. Strong winds meant I got off at Wagu and walked. I had time to visit Mitarashi Shrine, Hachiman Shrine and Fujimi Observatory before coming here. After checking in, I rented a bicycle, had lunch at Marumitsu Sushi, then went to Tenbozan Rayfield for what seemed to me the island's best view. Back at the inn, I enjoyed a self-service coffee. My Japanese-style twin room was on the third floor. From it I could see Toshi Port, Hachiman Bridge, the small island with Hachiman Shrine, and Kamishima Island. It was a relaxing way to experience the island. This was my first visit to Toshijima, and I noticed the Hachiman crest on boats and buildings, as well as a mat in front of the shrine's offering box. I later learned that many local customs are still observed. I'd like to come back in another season.
