The room was in a separate building, which gave me complete privacy and made my stay very comfortable. It was a spacious Japanese-style room with a nostalgic feel, and the lightweight feather comforter was wonderful. Even in the cold of early March, I slept soundly. The buildings seemed connected in a rather unusual layout, and the whole place had a lot of character. The woman at reception was very kind. Thank you.

The Edo Gozen needs to be reserved at least four days ahead for two or more people, so we booked it in advance. This Tochigi Edo cuisine uses recipes from the Edo period. We had locally popular Moro "Moukazame" fish with sweet-and-sour sauce and chive egg, dried gluten with dengaku, simmered yuba and konjac, and dyed rice made with glutinous rice cooked with gardenia fruit. The dining area is at the front, with the inn buildings lined up behind it, and all the dining areas have tables. The inn has been operating since the Edo period and faces Kuranomachi Boulevard. Parking is behind the inn, and you can also enter and leave from that side. 2025.12.11(Thu) 11:29
I booked a room without meals, then called before check-in to add breakfast for 1,000 yen. The host's breakfast was delicious. The inn feels like several old buildings joined together. To use the private bath across the way, I put on slippers, turned the sign at the entrance, and went in. It's recently renovated and lovely, with three showers and a big tub, almost more than one person needs. The host checks it each time to keep it clean, and you can ask them to call when it's your turn. I was glad it was available in the morning too.
The breakfast was delicious, and both the room and hostess were lovely, just as other reviews said. The only tricky part was finding the parking lot tucked away at the back.
I stayed in October 2024. The bathroom has been renovated beautifully and kept so clean that you'd hardly guess this is an older inn. It was very comfortable. The place may be old, but the facilities have been updated and the daily cleaning is meticulous, which made my stay pleasant. If you want to experience a traditional Japanese inn, this seems like a perfect fit.
