Kozuchi No Yado Tsurukame Daikichi

The rooms are well kept, the bathrooms clean, and the staff friendly and courteous. I liked having the option of a private hot bath in the room or using one outside in the public area. I'd bring my whole family here, or come with friends for a couple of days while visiting the Nikko area.

We had a Superior Room with comfortable beds and two pillows for each of us. It had a large room, Western-style beds, and a tatami sitting area that could be closed off with sliding panels. The bathroom was lovely, with twin sinks, a private shower, and a hot onsen bath on the balcony. There was also a large safe with a key lock. The Japanese-style dinner was elaborate, as was breakfast. The air conditioning was a little unreliable, but mostly worked after some fiddling; opening the windows helped. It was quiet with the windows open, just the river. The staff were helpful and spoke some English. The location was great for the temples and shrines, close to a bus stop for Kegon falls and the nearby ropeway, and a short distance from Shinkyo Bridge and the northwest end of town. The coffee machine instructions were only in Japanese, and Google Translate didn't help much, so I had to look up instructions in English online and on YouTube. My only small complaint was that there were no power outlets by the beds for charging a phone.

We had a great time here, and they prepared vegan food for us. The room was lovely, with an amazing view of the river and mountains. Toshogu Shrine was just around the corner, and booking the free shuttle back to the train station was really convenient. I'd highly recommend this hotel when you're in Nikko! :)

The food and service made our stay at Tsurukame Daikichi in Nikko so pleasant. The staff were accommodating, and we loved the seven-course dinners the chef put together. They made our bed each night while we enjoyed dinner. In the morning, we could choose which grilled fish we wanted, served with delicious appetizers. The fruit jam and yogurt were one of the best parts of breakfast. It's a traditional Japanese ryokan, and they provided a comfortable yukata in our size. What a beautiful stay. We'll visit again someday. ❤️
